What is the correct photo size for a PAN card application?

The standard PAN card photo size is 2.5 × 3.5 cm (25 × 35 mm), the same size used on the physical PAN card. This tool has that size preset as the default option — just upload your photo and it will be cropped to the exact dimensions.

Can I use this for NSDL, UTIITSL, or e-PAN applications?

Yes. All three portals require the same 2.5 × 3.5 cm photo. Use the Compress step to fit the file within the specific KB limit shown on the portal you're applying through, since exact limits can vary slightly between NSDL and UTIITSL.

What is the maximum file size allowed for a PAN photo upload?

Most PAN application forms require the photo to be between about 20 KB and 50 KB in JPEG format. Enable "Compress to fit online upload limit" and set your target KB value — the tool automatically adjusts quality until the file fits.

Should I upload the photo as JPG or PNG?

Use JPG. NSDL and UTIITSL PAN forms require the photo in JPEG format, and JPG also compresses more efficiently to meet the KB limit. PNG is available here mainly for other, non-PAN uses.

What background colour should I use for a PAN card photo?

A plain white or light background is recommended and is what most PAN issuing authorities expect. Use the Background fill swatches to add a white (or light) fill behind your photo if the original background isn't plain.

Is my photo uploaded to a server when I use this tool?
